The new year is on the horizon and that means it’s time to start planning ahead when it comes to what will be trending. To get a sense of what to expect, we have put together our top 5 predictions for styling trends that will be popular in 2022.

Sustainable Materials

The theme uniting all of these trends is the idea of making a sustainable choice. Whether this means you are mindful of the kinds of materials you are introducing to your home, that you take on a “buy once, buy well” approach or you embrace a minimal style with statement features to ensure your décor has longevity, is completely up to you. When it comes to styling a number of different textiles or materials can be included; some great ones to keep in mind coming into 2022 are concrete or cements, different types of wood, stone, wool, or even bamboo.

Structural Pieces & Contoured Curves

Structural style furniture and curves are as hot as ever. Whether they are built-in architectural features or the soft curves of a sofa, hanging chair, or tables, these pieces continue to be prized by designers as they bring a sense of ease, tranquility, and fluidity to a space, while adding a huge dose of personality and interest.

Attractive Brights & Vibrant Hues

The results are in and although it includes a few soothing neutrals, the list is dominated by tropical brights and saturated hues. Think colours like bright fuchsia, saturated blues, rounded out by juicy orange – although orange in all its forms from dusty peach, amber, and dusty coral will be making its way into our homes and workplaces. Artwork, soft furnishings, and a statement chair or sofa can be ways to experience the trend – or you could go all out and paint a feature wall – which is also due to make a comeback next year!

Minimalist Design

Don’t worry, minimalists. Trends may come and go, but minimalism is eternal. When it’s done well, minimalism enhances the livability of your space – and that’s always in style! Given that the home office is here to stay, minimalism is a great style that will encourage a seamless transition from work to home. Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with a of pop colour too!

Bring the Outdoors, In

Turning your indoor space into a jungle is becoming such a trend and we predict that this will definitely be rolling over into 2022. It’s important for us to feel connected to nature so if you feel like you don’t get enough outdoor time, try adding some greenery to your space. This means making sure there is plenty of natural light and fresh air, while pieces in raw timber, concrete, and stone also have a part to play.
If you don’t have the correct space or environment for plants to grow try adding images featuring nature to help bring a calm feeling to your space.

Vintage is Making a Comeback

Shopping vintage is an efficient and sustainable way to bring pieces with character into your home, it adds important personality to a space. Homes should celebrate their uniqueness and furniture choices are an important part of that. Vintage furniture can be so exciting because it has personality and history behind it, upcycling is a great way to refresh a vintage piece whilst still maintaining its charm. Stop being enticed into spending big money on a fixture for your home that three of your neighbours have and head out bargain hunting and pick yourself up something that is unique!
